Set Your Sights on the Visual Arts in London

When people travel to a new city or town, they usually seek out the attractions that will make their trip memorable. London has many museums both historical and visual. The art museums of the city hold a number of collections. The four art museums listed here are at the top of our list:

The Royal Academy of Arts

This museum is located at the Burling House. It was founded in 1768 and is well-known for its impressionist art and beautiful sculptures.

One of the exhibits on display is a retrospective of Monet's work. This exhibit is known as the "most successful impressionist exhibit" in the world because it has attracted so many visitors.

The museum is located on Belvedere Drive and opened in 1968. The facade of this gallery is nondescript. In this case, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You may think the building ugly but when you step inside, your visual sense will be stimulated.

Exhibits have included works by Jeppe Hein, Mike Nelson, and Rachel Whitehead.

The Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery

Located in one of London's most beautiful buildings, Somerset House, this is a private art gallery. Admission is free for those under 18 years of age.

The exhibits are paintings from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries as well as drawings, sculptures, and other decorative arts. The exhibited works include those by artists Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, and many more.

Visitors to this museum love the many varied works of art on display here. There is something to satisfy every art lover, regardless of taste.

The Tate Modern

The Tate ModernThis museum opened in 2000 and specializes in modern art. Before the art gallery moved in, the building had been a power station. There are original works of art from the power station on display. Most of the art work exhibited here is from the 1900s to the present.

The Tate Modern has a family friendly atmosphere. There are activities designed especially for children. The exhibits in this museum are subject to change. If you are a fan of the arts, this museum is a must see on your list of attractions.
